I sat to watch television on Friday night and as usual there was not much to excite the mind ,that was until I turned to Film 4 and there was a film just starting . I had missed the title so did not realise what I was about to see was the original version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, not the Daniel Craig starring version that although was a good film did not even come into the same category as this film.

The film has subtitles and at first I was going to turn over, but even with them the film caught me. The acting was superb the filming realistic and no Hollywood glitz, that gave the film a real life persona that I was thrilled with.

The story line of the rich and Powerful Wagner Corporations founder Heinrik Wagner trying to find out what happened to his favourite niece, who had disappeared 40 years ago. There had been extensive investigation by the Police headed by a young Detective Muller , but the disappearance had never been solved and all agreed the girl Harriet had been Murdered.     

Henrik had decided he wanted to know the truth before he left this mortal world, and engaged  a disgraced investigative reporter, Mikel Blonquist to investigate what had happened to Harriet .

Blonquist did not really want to take this task on until Wagner pointed out that he had nothing to loose, and also  that he would pay him well  very well and that he would make him a rich man .   

What he uncovered was a family  of devoted Nazi's  who had served the Reich with a ferocity , except Henrik who wanted nothing to do with them. Three of his brothers all served during the war and bought their racism home to fester.

I was spell bound as the story unfolded and then when the Girl in the Dragon tattoo came into the film it began to get real , her own seperate story interwoven with the main plot was gripping and raw.

You may have seen the Hollywood version of this film, but I suggest that you find a store with continental films and rent or buy this fabulous murder mystery ... Hitchcock would have been proud of this film had he written it .
